Rangers fans were full of praise on Thursday evening after Borna Barisic put in a fantastic display against Porto in the Europa League.

Despite walking a tightrope after picking up a first-half booking, the Croatian international was outstanding in both defence and attack.

He dealt well with threats down his side, tracking runners and generally showing a positional sense that was lacking earlier in his Gers stint.

Going forward, he was a constant threat, even more so than James Tavernier on the right.

He bombed into the spaces created by interplay in midfield and delivered multiple wicked crosses into the penalty area.

The 26-year-old’s main contribution came in the 44th minute. Latching onto a sublime Ryan Kent flick on, he delivered an inch-perfect arcing ball from the left flank right into the stride of Alfredo Morelos, who duly tucked away an equaliser.

It was a masterful pick out from Barisic, that helped the Gers regain a foothold at a crucial time in the game.

In the second half, it looked as though he’d repeated the dose. Taking out three Porto defenders with one whipped cross, he found the head of Morelos, only for the forward to power his header straight at the keeper.

Rangers fans rave about Barisic’s Porto contribution

A display packed full of quality from Borna, then, which directly contributed to the Gers taking a point from the Dragao.
