It’s not every day you bump into a current Rangers player and his father, who happens to be footballing royalty, in your local supermarket.

Yet, that’s what happened to one lucky supporter on Friday night.

A Rangers fan who goes by Alirv5 on Twitter, met both Ianis and Gheorghe Hagi in a Sainbury’s in Glasgow.

The chance encounter came just a day after Ianis had played and scored in the Gers’ 2-0 Europa League win over Lech Poznan in Poland.

The Romania international has struggled a little for game time in recent weeks. Yet, only James Tavernier has more assists in the Premiership so far this season and he was heavily involved on Thursday night.

Gheorghe’s only connection to Rangers is through his son, but he’s very much a legend of the game, having starred for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray, amongst others, across a glittering 19-year playing career.

A highly-skilled attacking midfielder, he earned well over 100 caps for Romania and came fourth in the 1994 Ballon d’Or.

Gheorghe is the owner of Viitorul Constanta, the Romanian club at which Ianis began his career, but it seems he took some time out to fly over to Glasgow and spend time with his son ahead of the Gers’ trip to Dundee United on Sunday.

It’s a great picture with a great caption and an experience the fan won’t forget in a hurry.

“What an offer in Sainsbury’s tonight,” he wrote. “Two Hagis for the price of one.”

At the time of writing, the post had racked up close to 5000 likes, with supporters blown away by the encounter.
