Rangers summer signing Sheyi Ojo has lauded his Ibrox teammate Steven Davis, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
Ojo has started the bulk of matches this season, since signing on loan from Liverpool. So far, he’s notched an impressive five goals and four assists [Transfermarkt] despite frustrating the fans at times.
However, he believes the key to the Gers’ recent form isn’t his contributions from out wide, but Steven Davis’s masterclasses in midfield.

Rangers summer signing Ojo believes Davis is ‘vital’
“If I had to give him a nickname I would probably call him The General,” said Ojo, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “He just knows where the ball is going to be and he really dictates the game.”
“As soon as he gets the ball I can make my runs to try and create chances for the team. He is a really important player and has shown throughout the season how good he is. We are delighted to have him.
“He dictates the tempo of the game and takes charge of that midfield. It is a great pleasure for everyone to play alongside him. It’s not just his performances, it’s the experience he brings from his first spell at the club. He’s a vital player.”

Verdict
It’s good to see a young talent like Ojo recognising the value of a maestro like Davis.
The 34-year-old has been there and done that across a stellar career. He won eight major honours including three league titles during his first stint at Ibrox, he has over 300 Premier League appearances to his name and has captained his country in a European Championships.
Crucially, though, it’s clear that he’s hungry for more.
When Davis first returned to Glasgow, he was short of match fitness and well shy of his best.
He’s been superb since working himself back up to speed, though, and has excelled recently. Against Aberdeen on Saturday, in particular, he made the side tick by dropping into pockets of space and using the ball expertly.
He was given a breather for the final 15 minutes, in preparation for this week’s big clash against Young Boys, where his experience and ball retention skills will play a big part.
