Florian Kamberi’s performances in Scotland should make him a prime target for Rangers in January.
The big Swiss forward only just signed for Hibs permanently in the summer. Already, however, he’s managed to bag seven goals in nine appearances this term since that signing. That follows a breakout season where he scored nine times in 14 outings on-loan in Leith.
Kamberi’s record since coming to Scotland is solid. With Umar Sadiq set to be sent packing back to Roma, this would be the ideal replacement.
When Steven Gerrard goes out in January looking for a new forward, he shouldn’t have a number three in mind. Kamberi is the kind of player that would waltz in and immediately challenge Kyle Lafferty.
Alfredo Morelos’ place in the side is untouchable at the moment, but Lafferty’s certainly isn’t. A partnership of Morelos and Kamberi would certainly be an interesting duo. It would, undoubtedly, cause many defences in Scotland countless problems.
The Swiss forward has also bagged three European goals in just one outing for Hibs. Those came against Runavik at Easter Road, but his confidence is clearly high.
What he brings
He can hold the ball up effectively and bring others into play. Despite being a goalscorer, he loves to get involved in the dirty work. Battling for every scrap he can, he would be just the player Rangers need up top alongside Morelos.
As mentioned, he’s only just signed permanently in Leith. Hibs have been notoriously hard to deal with for Rangers in recent years. The Scott Allan fiasco of 2015 was testament to that.
They’ve also started improving their expected fees for their players. Celtic tried to prize away John McGinn in the summer, and Hibs wouldn’t budge for anything much under £3million. Celtic failed to meet the asking price before Hibs accepted the first offer from down south. In terms of dealing with Scottish sides, Neil Lennon’s men can be difficult.
It’s unlikely the Easter Road side would be willing to do a deal with Rangers for their star-man. Money always talks, however, and it’ll be down to the budget Gerrard has.
Considering the fact Rangers are after four players in January, they may need to spend wisely. The Gers boss has been guaranteed funds in the new year, but we don’t know how much.
A proven goal-scorer, however, sits just under their noses in Kamberi. He’s the type of player Rangers do not want to allow Celtic to pip them to. At just 23-years of age, his potential is frightening.
Gerrard could certainly do a lot worse than test the waters for the Swiss forward in two months’ time.
