Rangers striker Lawrence Shankland appears excited to represent Scotland at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 30-year-old moved to Ibrox from Hearts this summer after a nerve-wracking season that nearly saw him lift the Scottish Premiership.

Now, his focus will be to add to his seven international goals and look to achieve further success at Rangers.

Would Rangers have won the league if they signed Lawrence Shankland instead of Youssef Chermiti?

Lawrence Shankland issues admission on injury suffered at the end of last season

Ahead of starting his World Cup campaign with Scotland, Shankland spoke to Rangers’ media team.

He admitted that he had picked up an injury towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign that kept him out of action.

However, he kept on working behind the scenes to bounce back from the setback, and his form for Hearts is what saw him being called up to Steve Clarke’s side.

Which Rangers star will fare the best at the World Cup?

The Gers have six players at the tournament.

Nicolas Raskin (top left), Lawrence Shankland (top right), Findlay Curtis (bottom left) and John Souttar (bottom right) are representing Rangers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Rangers have four players in the Scotland squad.

Now, he is expected to be a regular starter for Scotland at the World Cup, as they will hope for a deep run in the tournament.

Thus far, Shankland has 20 international caps to his name and would at least like to add another five or six ahead of the new season.

Speaking about the recent injury, he said: “I picked up the injury near the end of last season, but I know I just had to get myself in a position to bounce back and I came back really well, in really good form, and, thankfully enough, I’ve got myself in the squad, so it’s going to be a brilliant experience.”

Kenny Miller makes World Cup prediction on Rangers’ Shankland

Speaking to the BBC, Kenny Miller made a prediction on Shankland’s role for Scotland at the World Cup.

He expects Clarke to play a 4-4-2 system and sees the 30-year-old being named in the playing eleven.

Scotland open their campaign against Haiti, and Miller expects the 30-year-old to start that game on 14 June.

How many league goals will Shankland score for Rangers next season?

He could fire Rangers to a domestic treble!

Alongside Shankland, the BBC pundit believes that Che Adams, the Torino striker, will also be given the nod to start.

He said: “I would be very surprised – he has played that formation for these two preparation games – if he doesn’t stick with it for the opener,

“It makes sense and he’s looked at a couple of different combinations within that.

“I think the performance on Saturday with Lawrence and Che – and the fact they were both on the scoresheet – means I would be very surprised if it wasn’t those two against Haiti.

“What I will say is that there are a lot of good players in the attacking positions for Scotland. You have Lyndon Dykes, who’s been a big Steve Clarke favourite over the years, and with [George] Hirst and [Ross] Stewart coming into the squad as well, there’s a lot of options.

“However, the season Lawrence has had as well, he is our best chance for goals. When chances come along, he is very clinical and he’s off the back of a wonderful season.”
