Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been called up for the Colombian national team squad for the country’s matches against Uruguay and Ecuador.
The Ibrox striker has been named as one of the South American nation’s attackers alongside the likes of James Rodriguez, Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel.
Morelos, 24, has nine caps for his country with his only goal for Colombia coming in the 1-0 win against Peru in November 2019.
The powerful striker has been back amongst the goals between the last international break and this one, nettingthe winner against Lech Poznan and Rangers’ third in the 3-3 draw with Benfica in the Europa League.
In doing so, Morelos also became Rangers’ greatest ever European goalscorer, usurping club legend Ally McCoist with his 22nd Rangers Euro strike against the Portuguese side.
Morelos had fallen out of form after a summer of extensive transfer links where the player was touted for a move to the likes of Ligue 1 side Lille, who had a £16m bid rejected for the striker [Daily Mail].
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard spoke recently about how he believes the striker now has the hunger for scoring goals back.
“He was very happy after the game about his record-breaking,” said Gerrard [Daily Record].
“I think he’s got his hunger back and you can see it in his eyes, he wants to go and score more goals in the competition.
“I know he’s got dreams and aspirations of playing in the Champions League one day, which is good for him.
“In terms of where he’s at, the goals are back, the hunger is back, the sharpness is back.
“I don’t really like comparing him to (the Alfredo) of old because it’s about the now and what he is offering moving forward.

“But he’s definitely in a better place in terms of his form and how he looks. He’s smiling and seems happy, which is fantastic for everyone connected with Rangers.”
Colombia will face Uruguay in Barranquilla, Colombia on Friday the 13th November before heading to Uruguay on the 17th as they countine their qualification campaign for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022.
