Rangers have streaked clear of Benfica in a UEFA Europa League Twitter poll ahead of their fixture against Lech Poznan, as thousands tip the Gers to top Group D.
Steven Gerrard’s side are gearing up for their final group stage fixture in Poland on Thursday evening knowing that a win would secure them top spot and, in theory, a kinder draw for the Round of 32.
In fact, a UEFA rule quirk ensures that the Gers only need to match Benfica’s result against Standard Liege in Belgium, in order to finish top of the pile.
Gerrard has admitted that with progression already secured, he is likely to rest some players ahead of Sunday’s trip to Dundee United [Express and Star].
However, the Gers are still being backed to get the job done.
The official Europa League Twitter account started a poll on Tuesday morning, asking for fans to choose who they thought would top Group D and although it will run until close to kick-off on Thursday, Rangers look to have already taken an unassailable lead.
At the time of writing, over 14,000 votes had been cast and the Light Blues had received 74.9% of the vote.
The official Rangers Twitter account retweeted the poll on Wednesday and it’s likely that plenty of Bears have since backed their team.
Yet, the amount of votes cast suggests that plenty of neutrals are also getting behind Gerrard’s men.
With the manager set to tweak his XI against Lech Poznan, an exciting summer signing could finally make his first Europa League start.
