Rangers star's £18m exit request claims rubbished by Scottish press

A report coming out of Colombia which claimed Alfredo Morelos has “formally requested” to leave Rangers after an £18m (€20m) bid dropped from Lille have been rubbished in Scotland.

Both the Glasgow Times and Daily Record are claiming that sources close to Rangers have refuted the claims made by WinSportsTV journalist Pipe Sierra.

Sierra had previously claimed:

“CONFIRMED: Colombian forward Alfredo Morelos (24) has formally requested the #Rangers to accept the 20M offer € made by him #Lille . Decisive hours.”

This also came after another WinSportsTV journalist, Carlos Aleman, had taken to Twitter to suggest that there would be “announcements soon” regarding Morelos’ future.

Aleman claimed that Morelos’ exclusion from the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock was a “clue” and that negotiations had “reactivated” between Rangers and Lille.

Morelos has conducted a range of interviews with the Colombian sports channel over the last few weeks so the Colombian media channel are well connected to the player.

However, the Glasgow Times claims that “Rangers are waiting on Lille to make the next move” on striker Morelos, suggesting no new bid has been launched.

The report claims that Morelos has not handed in a transfer request and “the ball remains in Lille’s court” after the Ibrox club rejected a £16m bid for the player earlier in the window.

Similarly, the Daily Record understands “the story is wide of the mark”.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard took aim at Morelos after dropping the player against Kilmarnock, claiming the striker made it “easy” to exclude him at the weekend.
