Rangers starlet Josh McPake has admitted he considered leaving Ibrox this summer, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

Back in June, the Daily Record reported that the likes of Liverpool and AS Roma were interested in signing the teenager.

He confirmed that there was interest from elsewhere, but that after deliberation, he decided to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.

“There was interest from other clubs which was a good feeling, really flattering,” said McPake, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “But I want to make the grade at Rangers.”

“Of course I gave the other interest some serious thought before signing my contract. But I’m sure I’ve made the right decision. I don’t think there’s a better place in Britain for me to develop and prove myself.

“If I’m coming through at Rangers and making an impact under Gerrard, it’s such a good platform for the rest of my career.”

Verdict

It’s great to hear one of the club’s biggest prospects at youth level speak so highly about the opportunities offered at Rangers.

There’s a concerted effort to develop a pathway from the Academy to the first team at Ibrox, and McPake’s decision was vindicated when Steven Gerrard handed him a debut in Europa League Qualifying against St Joseph’s in July.

For the purposes of his development, the 18-year-old is currently on loan in the Championship with Dundee.

It’s proved a tough challenge for him so far [Glasgow Evening Times] and he is yet to net for his adopted side. On Saturday, he was given a 15-minute run-out as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Partick Thistle.
