Alfredo Morelos has scooped a significant award and the Rangers striker looks primed for a big 2022.

On Wednesday morning, both the Gers and the SPFL announced that Morelos had won the Premiership Player of the Month award for December.

Playing in a more traditional no.9 role than he had been towards the end of Steven Gerrard’s tenure, El Bufalo was outstanding for Gio van Bronckhorst during the final month of 2021.

Rangers sailed through December, winning all six of their matches without conceding a goal, and the Colombia international was key to that form.

He scored in four of the matches, finding the net against Dundee, Hearts, St Johnstone and St Mirren to take his tally for the season across all competitions to 13.

He also registered an assist in the win over St Johnstone, his fourth of the season in the league.

It was an emphatic response to oft-deserved criticism for poor performances earlier in the campaign.

The 25-year-old looked unmotivated, a little out of shape and often lacked composure in front of goal.

Yet, after showing positive signs during October and November, he really turned things around in December and was fully deserving of the award.

It looks like he’s primed to continue his form into 2022, too.

Morelos posted a video to his Instagram story on Tuesday showing him doing a core exercise in a gym and the Gers talisman looks in excellent condition.

He’s lean and clearly motivated enough to be working hard on his own, and the clip created quite a lot of excitement amongst fans on social media.

Bears will be hoping he hits the ground running when the competitive action returns with a trip to Aberdeen in a little under a week’s time.

Later on Wednesday, Gio van Bronckhorst was named Premiership Manager of the Month, making it a December double for the Light Blues.

Meanwhile, a player Rangers reportedly missed out on in the summer has joined a rival Premiership club on loan.
