Rangers star who exemplifies ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ form as Philippe Clement interview picked apart

Philippe Clement continues to persist with the idea that he and his Rangers team need time to build.

It’s a narrative that isn’t washing with some, especially as Aberdeen beat Gers last night to move nine points ahead in the battle for the top two with a new manager recruited in the summer and new signings on the pitch too.

It is correct to point out that a number of new players were brought to Ibrox in the summer but the manager himself did promise the Rangers team would start to look better by October.

But that’s two league defeats this month as any title challenge looks to be becoming a pipe dream.

Neil McCann disagrees with Clement Rangers assessment

Rangers tried to take the game to Aberdeen in the second half as they trailed 1-0 and they did get back level before conceding again.

Former Gers winger Neil McCann insists those second half efforts came far too late on what was a huge night for the club. And he disagrees with Clement’s claim it was one of their best performances of the season.

McCann also highlighted the difference in performance of Nedim Bajrami from his FCSB display as a key indicator of thigs being off.

He said on BBC Sportscene: “This was a second half performance that should have been there from the off. This was a massive game.

“You’re saying about Bajrami. Yes, he was a highlight with that goal but he had no touches in the Aberdeen box for 60 minutes. I watched him against FCSB and it was on a different level to tonight.

“It was only right they came out and had a go at Aberdeen (in the second half) but I have to say I disagree with Philippe Clement saying that that was one of the best performances of the season with this young group.

“It’s not a young group. There’s one or two young guys in there. Kasanwirjo’s a young guy, he’s on loan.

“Cerny’s on loan. And Barron and you’ve got McCausland playing tonight. but it’s not a young group as such.

“We’re almost in November. And you can’t have that type of Jekyll and Hyde performance. Brilliant against a European, poor against St Mirren for me and then coming (to Pittodrie).”

Will Philippe Clement be given time at Rangers?

While the Belgian continues to insists he will get things right given time, many are losing that faith.

Kris Boyd is the latest to turn on Clement and insist the time is right to part ways.

But McCann feels the manager WILL be given time after signing a new contract and due to his belief there is a lack of alternatives.

He said: “Yes, I think he will. I mean, where are they going to go? I think he will be given time, he’s just been given a new contract.

“He is talking about building for the future. But the future’s now. The Rangers fans might not want him to be given time because nine points behind Aberdeen is unacceptable.”
