Rangers star Kemar Roofe is surely due an apology from certain quarters of the Scottish sports press after St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson admitted the striker never injured one of his players.

Gers forward Roofe had an appeal over a challenge on Saints midfielder Murray Davidson thrown out with Rangers contesting the retrospective charge levelled at the player for the incident.

It means Roofe is now serving a two-match ban but to add injury to insult regarding the tackle reports in the Scottish press claimed the striker caused Davidson an injury with the tackle.

Davidson would go off midway through the first half in the eventual Rangers victory with the Daily Record claiming that Roofe’s “horror” tackle could keep Davidson out of the Betfred Cup Final between St Johnstone and Livingston on 28th February.

Clyde Superscoreboard [06/02/21] pundit Roger Hannah also incurred the wrath of Rangers when he claimed that Davidson injured himself partly due to the challenge from Roofe.

That’s despite images appearing to show Davidson getting treatment on the opposite leg from the one which was clattered by Roofe before leaving the pitch in the 1-0 Rangers victory.

Club insider Heart & Hand [Daily Update 08/02/21] revealed during the week that Rangers withdrew co-operation with Clyde for the match with Hamilton over the comments.

Now, Roofe is almost certainly due an apology from both after Saints boss Callum Davidson admitted the striker’s challenge didn’t cause his midfielder and namesake’s injury.

“[Davidson] He’ll be 50/50 for the cup final, so that’s what we’re looking at,” said the St Johnstone manager [Sky Sports].

“It’s just a bad calf injury he’s got, not from the resulting tackle may I add. [It is] his other leg but I think he was carrying it a little bit.”

Is Rangers star Kemar Roofe now due an apology from the likes of Clyde One and the Daily Record?

Rangers fan media Heart & Hand are also adamant the club will not be talking to the radio station until the matter is “resolved”.
