Rangers star Joe Aribo has sent a message to close friend and musical artist Dave after the rapper picked up the best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act Award at the BRIT Awards.
The talented London born rapper is only 23 and the award follows on from his album Psychodrama winning Album of the Year at last year’s awards.
Giving a rousing and humbling speech upon picking up the gong, the eloquent, mature and humble comments are perhaps reflective of the music Dave makes.
“First of all I just want to thank God, for the last couple of years I want to thank God, I want to dedicate everything to Him,” said Dave [BRIT Awards].
“I appreciate my fans so much, I know this is a fan-based award and honestly, thank you guys.
“What do I say if I’ve got 30, 45 seconds to speak. I went by the college today on my way here to the arena, and I saw some of the kids going to college and doing their thing.
“It took my back to a different time man and I saw some of the kids going to college and it took me back to a different time. It feels like only yesterday I was at Richmond college.
“I went St Marks with my boy Just, Cal my producer who worked with me on the album, my mum, all my friends and family I love you guys so much.
“I know I’m a difficult person and I want to say thank you to all my friends for putting up for me.
“I want to say thank you to the all of the artists who’re in the same field as me, the rappers who’ve broken down so many barriers in this industry that I’m in.
“I’m just a guy that really, really, really loves music and I think to be able to be here and share a stage with some of the most talented musicians in the world, it’s the best I can do.
“So I want to say, Glory be to God, thank you guys for this I appreciate it so much.”
Rangers star Joe Aribo sends message to Dave after BRIT awards
A passionate musician who brings together socially conscious, though-provoking lyrics with cutting edge British rap and grime music, the BRIT Award is yet more evidence of the rapper’s progress as a musician.
But it’s his humility and grace as a human being that caught the attention of Rangers star Joe Aribo, who took the opportunity to retweet Dave – also known as Santan Dave – after collecting the award.
The pair are known to be friends from their time in London and Joe Aribo even won the Man of the Tournament at Dave’s Santan Cup in 2018 during the Rangers star’s time at Charlton [Versus].
It’s easy to see why both are friends too; these two Londoners have come very far in their careers to date and have a shared humility, grace, passion and talent for what they do.
What’s more, given the trajectory both Joe Aribo and Dave are on, we think they’re just getting started and the skies the limit for both.
Joe Aribo has grown into a real fans’ favourite at Rangers and whilst plenty will be hoping to see him commit his future to the club, there are said to be plenty of suitors down south.
