Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has thrown his support behind Alfredo Morelos after the striker missed a penalty in the 1-0 Betfred Cup defeat to Celtic.
The Canadian captain is backing his Colombian teammate to bounce straight back from the cup disappointment and praised his ability.
Arfield too will be bitterly disappointed with the outcome of the game but he’s sure Alfredo won’t let it get to him too much.
“Not at all [we don’t need to lift Morelos],” said Arfield [Sky Sports].
“He has dug us out of so many holes this season, he is a fantastic football player and a great character. It’s one of those things, everybody misses penalties and it is what it is.
“We are fully behind him but I don’t think he needs that. He is a character that knows what he’s all about, we know what he’s all about, the fans know what he’s all about.
“He will bounce back for sure.”
It was not to be Arfield’s, Morelos’ or Rangers’ day at Hampden as the club completely dominated rivals Celtic but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Celtic’s offside goal has been the source of much criticism [Daily Record], but it’s also true Rangers should’ve taken care of things better themselves.
Morelos, of course, is at the centre of that as the player who missed the penalty but the team’s performance as a whole will be encouraging for Rangers.
