Rangers star Scott Arfield has apologised to the club’s supporters after he failed to convert two guilt-edged chances in Sunday’s draw with Hibernian at Easter Road, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

The 31-year-old was one of the Gers’ best performers on the day and scored his side’s second goal in the 57th minute.

However, after Christian Doidge’s header had cancelled his strike out, the Canada international had two golden chances to win the game.

With ten minutes remaining, Arfield made a good run in behind and was picked out by a clipped ball over the top. He controlled well and only had the keeper to beat but could only side-foot his effort straight at Marciano.

Perhaps fortunately, he was given a second bite at the cherry when the ball bounced back in his direction, but he once again attempted a side-footed finish only to be denied by the sprawling Hibs keeper.

The Gers star really should have converted second time around at least, either with a powerful finish, or by taking the ball around the Israel international.

After the game, he apologised to the club’s supporters for failing to convert.

“I need to score, I need to score,” said Arfield, as quoted by the Glasgow Times. “I can’t get it out of my head. I haven’t seen it back yet.”

“At least the second one has to go in. The first one is a good save but I should finish it. I think he just throws his body at the second one but it shouldn’t come to that.

“I have got to score it. I don’t think they had a chance after that. On a personal note, it is good to get a goal and get on the scoresheet but these are the chances that you need to take and we need to win these games. I apologise and we move on as quickly as possible. It is a miss, without a doubt.”

Rangers star Scott Arfield apologises for miss against Hibernian – Verdict

Arfield was one of the standouts from a relatively poor Rangers display in the capital, as the 31-year-old picked up good positions in the final third, looking to create and get shots off.

He took his goal well but as he’s admitted himself, he really should have bagged a brace.

The ex-Burnley man certainly wasn’t the only one guilty of wastefulness, though. Alfredo Morelos missed a glorious chance ten minutes in and with the score at 2-1, both Ryan Kent and Filip Heander failed to convert when presented with clear opportunities.

The point took Rangers to the top of the table but as has been the case many times over recent seasons, they failed to put psychological pressure on Celtic, who have a game in hand.
