Rangers skipper James Tavernier received some big recognition on Wednesday afternoon.

He was named in the FIFA 19 Team of the Week, following his Old Firm display.

The right-back opened the scoring against Celtic with a free-kick inside two minutes. He then proved a constant menace to the opposition down the right side and defended stoutly throughout.

Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield received much of the plaudits after the game, but Tav is the only Gers star included here.

Alongside him, are some big names from the world of football.

Unsurprisingly, Riyad Mahrez earned a spot for his outstanding effort for Man City away at Brighton.

The £54m-rated winger [Transfermarkt] scored the third goal for Pep Guardiola’s side, who clinched the Premier League title with three points at the Amex.

Belgium international, Michy Batshuayi, also gets the nod. He notched a brace for Crystal Palace during their 5-3 final day win over Bournemouth.

Tav was one of only a handful of defenders included. Newcastle’s Fabian Schar, Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi and Jose Luis Gaya of Valencia were the only others selected.

Some illustrious company, then, for the skipper.

One thing’s for sure, after all his exploits in the final third this season, he certainly deserves recognition.
