A Rangers star who will be key in upcoming fixtures against Alashkert and Celtic has received official SPFL recognition for an excellent display against Ross County at the weekend [SPFL.co.uk].

Joe Aribo opened the scoring in Dingwall with a stunning curled effort from the right corner of the box and he impressed throughout his 83 minutes on the pitch.

The Nigeria international was lauded by supporters for his efforts and now, he has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week.

He was one of seven Premiership players to make it into the team, with former Rangers midfielder Rhys Mcabe – who now plays for Airdrieonians – one of the four non-top flight players included.

Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of Aribo’s, so he was always likely to be named in the starting XI for upcoming clashes against Alashkert and Celtic.

However, the Covid outbreak means he’ll be an even more important player in what are two extremely important matches.

The 25-year-old could be deployed in midfield in Armenia and in an inside forward berth at Ibrox on Sunday but regardless of the position he plays, the manager will be looking for him to get on the ball, to make things happen and to work hard defensively.

Now in his third season in Glasgow, Aribo knows exactly what is required of him and if he can stay injury-free, this should be his best campaign yet.

In other news, Rangers have received a big boost ahead of the Old Firm which may offset some of the damage done by the Covid outbreak.
