Rangers star Nicolas Raskin insists Stephen Robinson’s pre-match comments served as inspiration ahead of the club’s win over St Mirren.
The Northern Irish manager had landed a pre-match blow on Rangers by suggesting his St Mirren side were ready to go six points clear of the Ibrox club in the Scottish Premiership.
But as Rangers dusted 10-man St Mirren off in a 3-0 win in Paisley, Nicolas Raskin claims the comments of Stephen Robinson did little more than fire the Ibrox side up.
The Belgian midfielder has also claimed that the result and performance can help boost a struggling Rangers side who’ve toiled in the first period of this season.
“It’s big, I think it’s big,” Raskin told RangersTV.
“We all saw them saying they want to be six points clear of us before the international break but this can’t happen. After the result we had against Aberdeen and then Cyprus we had to show something different.
“This was a good performance but we have to continue to work and we’ve got big games coming, we have to focus on them and take it game after game
“We’ve come from a tough time, we’ve had a lot of injuries and they [St Mirren] were on a good run so we can only be happy. It was important to play our game, run behind the defence, we tried to be different than we did in Cyprus because that wasn’t really us.”

Nicolas Raskin was one of Rangers’ top performers on the day as the Ibrox club overcame St Mirren and the Belgian probably should’ve scored against Stephen Robinson’s side.
It was also Raskin who assisted Abdallah Sima to score the second goal of the game, the Senegalese scoring between a James Tavernier brace.
Whilst Nico burst onto the scene at Rangers following his January move from Standard Liege, Ibrox fans haven’t been convinced of the midfielder’s performances this season.
Playing in a slightly more advanced role in Paisley, Rangers fans got a glimpse of what Nicolas Raskin can offer in a more offensive sense and let’s hope it’s the beginning of a run of form for the popular Belgian.
