Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been named in Whoscored’s Europa League Team of the Season so-far – with Ibrox flop Umar Sadiq named as his strike partner.

The Colombian firebrand has hit 14 goals in the European competition this season and was one of the standout performers in the first half of the campaign.

But even his electric performances against the likes of Feyenoord and Porto haven’t earned him a higher average rating than now-Partizan Belgrade forward Sadiq.

Morelos has a 7.53 rating from the footballing statistics website, whilst Nigerian striker Sadiq has a score of 7.58.

Compared to Morelos’ 14 Europa League strikes – an official UEFA recognised record as the most goals scored before Christmas in European competition [UEFA] – Sadiq hit five.

There are a couple of reasons for Morelos’ average being slightly lower than the failed Rangers striker, who joined the club on loan from AS Roma last season.

Morelos has played two more matches in the competition proper but unfortunately was unable to recapture his sparkling form from the first half of the season.

This is because Rangers qualified for the knockout stages whilst Manchester United and AZ Alkmaar qualified from Partizan’s group.

The Colombian was also banned for the club’s second leg with Braga having picked up a yellow card in the first which activated a suspension.

Rangers are currently still in the Europa League, trailing 3-1 from their first leg with Bayer Leverkusen.

The competition has been suspended as Europe and the UK come to terms with the ongoing global pandemic which has rocked world football.
