Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has missed out on the Europa League Player of the Week award despite an outstanding display against Borussia Dortmund.

Morelos was one of the best performers in a Rangers shirt on a famous night for the champions of Scotland.

He scored the Gers’ second goal and then played a big part in the fourth which was eventually credited as an own goal from Dan-Axel Zagadou.

While the likes of Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Ryan Kent also excelled, Morelos received the highest SofaScore rating of any Rangers player with 7.8.

On Friday morning, Rangers tweeted to announce that the forward had been nominated for the EL POTW, alongside Porto forward Tony Martinez, Atalanta centre-back Berat Djimsiti and Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Martinez scored a brace as Porto defeated Lazio 2-1, Rodriguez netted the opener as Betis won 3-2 at Zenit St Petersburg and Djimisti scored twice as Atalanta downed Olympiacos.

While it’s likely that thousands of Rangers fans voted for El Bufalo, he only came third.

Djimisti came second and the award went to Martinez.

Morelos will no doubt be a little disappointed to miss out, as he takes great pride in individual accolades, but he’s on a real roll right now with eight goals in his last nine appearances and will fancy himself to hit the net again at Tannadice on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a versatile Rangers-linked attacker is back impressing at his current club and could be available on a free at the end of the season.
