Rangers full-back Borna Barisic has expressed his excitement at joining up with Croatia ahead of the country’s UEFA Nations League tests against Portugal and France.
Playing the world and European champions is a huge attraction to Barisic who remains the first-choice left-back for his country.
Borna, 27, has been on exceptional form for Steven Gerrard’s side so far this season and he will be hoping to carry that on through to international duty.
“I am looking forward to them (the matches),” said Borna [Rangers].
“It is always really nice when you play for your national team, especially now when you are going to Portugal and France. They are very challenging games but I am very happy because of that.”
Barisic has emerged as the main man at left-back for Croatia and will be looking to add to his 12 caps and solitary goal when his team play Portugal and France on September 5th and 8th respectively.
The marauding full-back has made a bright start to the Rangers season and has even been the subject of reported transfer interest from the likes of Premier League Leeds United.
But having signed a new contract at Rangers last season Borna is fully concentrated on the task at hand at Ibrox.
The former NK Osijek captain has been ever-present for the side this season, laying on three assists and scoring one goal – a fine free-kick in the 3-0 win over St. Johnstone.
That also means that Barisic has been a part of the record-breaking run of six clean sheets at the start of the season and the Croatian has expressed his delight at re-writing history.
“It’s a very nice feeling,” said Barisic [Glasgow Times].
“We knew if we kept another clean sheet we would break the record so that was a motivation for us.
“Of course, our first priority was to win and the second one was to keep another clean sheet. Now we have written out own piece of history so I am very happy about that.”
