Rangers star lands national blow on Celtic rival ahead of Old Firm clash

Rangers star Glen Kamara started Old Firm week off well by landing a blow on Celtic defender Shane Duffy on the international stage.

The Finland midfielder played around 75 minutes as he started his third game in a week for his country as they defeated the Republic of Ireland.

Kamara’s impressive form continued as the Arsenal academy graduate helped inspire his high-flying Finland side to a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Fredrik Jensen goal.

The match was also the third successive game in which Shane Duffy has started this week as the Celtic defender’s woeful record as stand-in ROI skipper continues.

Summer Celtic loan signing Duffy is yet to captain his side to victory when he has wore his country’s armband.

Both players were heavily used during the international break and it remains to be seen if they will be expected to play in the crunch Old Firm clash this weekend.

Finland star Glen Kamara is a big part of the reason why the Scandinavian nation qualified for a first tournament in Euro 2020 and has been earning plaudits from international teammates.

But whilst the likes of Teemu Pukki have tipped the player for a move to the Premier League, Rangers star Kamara is adamant he is just focusing on his football.

“I’m not focused on that kind of thing. I’m focusing on this game,” said Kamara [the National].

“I enjoy playing with the national team and enjoy the manager, enjoy the group of boys that I’m with, and it’s always an honour to play for the national team.

“Since I’ve started playing, I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve got to know the players, I’ve got to know how the team plays and I feel like I’ve fitted in quite well, so hopefully long may it continue.”
