Rangers star Kemar Roofe is now hopeful of being passed fit to face Celtic in the League Cup final. The striker was a doubt for Hampden Park after Michael Beale stated his latest injury.

That is according to the Daily Record, which reports Roofe hopes to hand Beale a boost and be fit for Sunday. The 30-year-old is optimistic over his chances of featuring after Ibrox staff confirmed he had not sustained a major issue. He has endured a nightmare run this season.

Roofe has regularly fought to gain fitness this season between lengthy spells on the sidelines in Glasgow. But the Gers’ medical team have now informed Beale that he should be ready to make their squad at Hampden. It would only be the forward’s seventh appearance this term.

Roofe has so far featured in just three Premiership fixtures, two League Cup ties and an SFA Cup tie. His appearances this season further only total 147 minutes, in which he has offered two goals. While Beale has only been at the Ibrox helm for three of the Jamaican’s matches.

It appeared unlikely that Roofe would add to his tally this Sunday after Beale confirmed the Rangers star’s latest injury. The Ibrox boss admitted earlier this week, via The Scotsman, he suffered a ‘minor issue’ during the forward’s goal-scoring cameo at Livingston last Saturday.

Roofe hopes to feature in the League Cup final after the Rangers star’s latest injury

Beale replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst in charge whilst Roofe was still recovering from an injury in November. The five-cap international would eventually return to fitness in January. Yet his return only lasted 12 minutes at Dundee United and 44 minutes against Aberdeen.

Roofe, who Van Bronckhorst considered ‘very important’, suffered a shoulder injury against Aberdeen in Rangers’ League Cup semi-final last month. The issue did not require the £3.5m attacker to undergo surgery. But it sidelined him for a month up to appearing at Livingston.
