Rangers star Alfredo Morelos came off the bench for Colombia as they rescued a late point against Chile in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

The Ibrox striker, 24, was involved in legendary Colombian forward Falcao’s equalising goal in the 91st minute as Morelos’ side earned a 2-2 draw.

Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma had Colombia ahead within seven minutes but Los Cafeteros were pegged back courtesy of an Arturo Vidal penalty.

Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez had Chile ahead in Santiago before Galatasaray striker Falcao struck to earn Colombia a share of the spoils.

The match was Morelos’ eighth cap for his country and comes after the player made a brief cameo in Colombia’s 3-0 win over Venezuela last week.

Morelos has one goal for his country, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over South American rivals Peru last year.

The former HJK Helsinki striker’s latest caps also come after the player’s inclusion in the Colombia squad was criticsed because Morelos plays in Scotland.

The striker bit back at the sentiment by suggesting that the Scottish Premiership is a considerably higher standard than it’s given credit for.

“I am happy to be called up for the national team again,” said Morelos [Scottish Sun].

“With regards to my future at Rangers, I will decide this in the next few days, but for now, I am thinking only about Colombia.

“To these people who are criticising me, my statistics tell its own story.

“These critics don’t watch Scottish football. If they did they would know I am playing well in a good league.”

Morelos now faces a long trip back across the globe as he faces a race against time to be back in the UK and fully prepared for Rangers’ trip to Celtic Park this weekend.
