Rangers might not have earned all three points against Motherwell but fans can look towards Fashion Sakala for one major positive from the match.
The Zambian international striker has been made to wait for his first competitive Rangers goal and it came 12 minutes into the clash with the Steelmen at Ibrox.
The enthusiastic striker might’ve even been offside for the goal as he nodded in from a flick-on at a corner but as the 24-year-old wheeled away in celebration, it was the slice of luck he’s been waiting for.
A major summer signing, the Gers pipped a range of teams from La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Premier League to sign the player once his contract expired at Belgian side KV Oostende.
But up until now Fashion Sakala hasn’t been able to find the back of the net – save for the pre-season friendly win over Real Madrid – in a start to life at ibrox interrupted by injury.
Now, having officially opened his account for Rangers, fans will be hoping this can serve as the catalyst for the player getting his Gers career up and running.
Going by Sakala’s celebration, the situation had perhaps been weighing a little heavy and the relief was palpable for the forward.
As he works back to fitness, the striker might’ve even had another two goals and was denied firstly by Liam Kelly and then secondly by firing high and wide of the bar after being fed in by Joe Aribo.
Steven Gerrard took the opportunity to praise the player at full time as Sakala finally gets his Ibrox striking career up and running.
“He looked ready, he looked lively and he pulled off a great goal and looked dangerous throughout, but what he needs more is back up [from his fellow players], we need more people to support him upfront,” said Gerrard [Rangers TV].
Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Motherwell keeps the club at the top of the Scottish Premiership by only one point.
An Ibrox secret agent was also out spoiling the Celtic party and he took to social media to express hit delight.
