Rangers boss Steven Gerrard gave “world-class” goalkeeper Allan McGregor the plaudits as he joked that the Gers should offer him a ten-year contract and the manager’s job because the club “love” him so much.

The Gers goalie was named the RangersTV Man of the Match in the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Celtic for a string of impressive moments in a performance topped off by a penalty save.

McGregor – who’s just signed a new deal at Ibrox for next season – haunts the dreams of Celtic supporters and even at 39 Steven Gerrard couldn’t speak highly enough about his goalkeeper.

“McGregor, I’m bored of speaking about him,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“He’s world-class, I’ve said it before. We’ve just give him a year deal but we should’ve give him a ten one because he can have my job after me, we love him that much he can have whatever he wants.”

McGregor showed exactly why he terrifies Celtic throughout the match with a string of solid stops and an alertness which unsteadied the attacks of our rivals.

The veteran goalie certainly enjoys these matches and the stopper can always be relied on to come up big for the Gers in key moments at Ibrox.

Saving Odsonne Edouard’s admittedly dubious penalty halted Celtic’s route back into the match but there was so much more to his performance than just that moment.

Rangers fans took to Twitter to give Greegsy the plaudits in the aftermath of the game as the reliable gloves helped guide the Gers into the Scottish Cup quarter-final:

Rangers fans certainly enjoyed the domination over Celtic this afternoon but the fans aren’t the only ones turning the screw on the Parkhead club.

The club themselves have taken aim at the hapless Parkhead side with a series of post-match blows aim at Glasgow’s eastenders.
