Dujon Sterling has had an eventful first season as a Rangers player and there are still a few months and plenty of big games left for the former Chelsea academy product.

Part one saw the 24-year old barely feature, part two saw Gers boss Philippe Clement transform him into a defensive midfielder and part three has seen the Jack of all trades master playing on the wing.

Unfortunately, Dujon Sterling has been hit by the Rangers injury curse with the queue for the treatment room now standing at 12, there has been some good news though.

Dujon Sterling has good news for Rangers fans

Sterling has become a fans’ favourite with his all-action style and no little quality.

That he’d never played as a midfielder before Clement moved him into the engine room is incredible given how easy he makes it look.

The next step for him is to improve his distribution from the middle of the park but there is no doubt that will come, his enthusiasm drawing praise from Barry Ferguson no less.

Through necessity though, Sterling has found himself on the wing recently and the last two games alone show exactly why.

Against Benfica, he scored our second goal – his first at senior level.

Even more impressive is his movement for Tom Lawrence’s opener.

With one run, he takes out three defenders and creates space for boy Lawrence and Cyriel Dessers.

He shouldn’t have this level of positional awareness or intelligence.

Then, against Hibs, he was at it again.

Instead of leaving it up to James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling made a defence splitting run into the penalty area before being clumsily brought down, a penalty to Rangers was the only option.

Three goal involvements in two games from a player who is still learning how to play the position.

Have you seen Scott Wright or Ross McCausland make similar contributions and influence a game so effectively?

The good news is that Sterling, in his own words, will be “back soon” as a picture posted on Instagram shows.

The strange thing is, you wouldn’t say that Sterling gets into Rangers best XI but our team is always stronger for his presence.

A return to fitness can’t come quick enough.
