Rangers star Ianis Hagi could soon be lining up v Barcelona and Real Madrid as links to La Liga side Deportivo Alaves are realised.

Alaves have officially struck a loan deal for Ianis Hagi amid much talk surrounding his Rangers future.

The Gers have confirmed Ianis Hagi will head to La Liga for the campaign.

It comes after the attacking midfielder, 24, went public with his frustrations surrounding a lack of game time at Rangers since returning from a devastating ACL injury.

Rangers manager Michael Beale has failed to give Ianis Hagi assurances over minutes and as a result the Ibrox boss had claimed “background” discussions were happening over a deal.

As Beale shot down suggestions Ianis Hagi could move to Israel, the move to Alaves certainly poses an interesting one for a number of reasons.

Ianis Hagi linked with Alaves move

Ianis Hagi is yet to play in Spain and a fresh challenge for the Romanian international may well be the key to him restarting his stuttering career.

Gheorghe Hagi – the player’s legendary footballing father – also spent time in the country during his playing career and namely with Real Madrid and then Barcelona.

The Maradona of the Carpathians spent two years at Real Madrid between 1990 and 1992 before returning from a stint in Italy to spent two years at Barcelona from 1994.

Should Rangers star Ianis Hagi return to either or both clubs with Alaves this season it’ll create an interesting subplot to the matches.

However, the suggestion that Alaves only want a loan with a purchase option may raise a few eyebrows at Rangers who may wish to offload Ianis Hagi permanently.

Alternatively, the attacking midfielder could go and have a strong season in Spain before returning a better player.
