Rangers star Borna Barisic has provided a wholly positive injury update regarding a back problem that has curtailed the left-back’s involvement at Euro 2020.

The defender went into the tournament as the first choice for Zlatko Dalic’s side but gave his space up to talented full-back Josko Gvardiol due to the injury.

The Croat missed the Balkans nation’s first two matches in the tournament’s group stage, missing out completely in games against England and the Czech Republic.

Returning to the fold in the second half of the 3-1 win over Scotland, Barisic replaced Gvardiol who was taken off injured.

But whilst the Croatian has had minimal impact on the group stage, all the sounds are good that he’ll get his chance in the knockout phase of the competition, with Croatia set to play Spain in the last 16.

“In terms of the situation with my back, everything is fine now. In my second training session when I came to Rovinj, I injured my back and had problems since then,” said Borna [Glasgow Times].

“I managed to briefly fix that, but then it returned, but the situation is fine now.

“To end everything about the injury, I’ve played a lot of matches with Rangers and of course at the end of the season and the end of the championship, my focus was on the European Championships which I had been waiting for so much and had been postponed because of Covid.

“Of course, when I had my first injury at Rangers against Celtic, I was worried about the Euro, I was worried about the condition I’d be in when I came to Croatia.

“I managed to fix that and came in good condition. But unfortunately I had an unusual injury with my back and that messed with my plans a bit but thank God, everything is fine now, everything is good.

“I played those 20 minutes against Scotland and managed to do my part a bit and help the team qualify for the next round.”

Croatia were simply too good for Scotland as they booked safe passage to the last 16 with Spain a tough test for any side in the competition.

The Spaniards come into the game after a 5-0 hammering of Slovakia but Borna believes there is only one side the Rangers fans will be cheering for.
