Rangers star Allan McGregor and former Ibrox defender David Bates have both been named in the latest SPFL Team of the Week after superb performances.

The Gers defeated Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle in the early kick-off on Sunday with early goals from Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo securing the three points.

It wasn’t a totally one-sided game, though, and goalkeeper McGregor was called upon on a number of occasions.

Hearts had the form keeper in the league coming into the game in Craig Gordon, but McGregor sent a reminder of his own abilities by pulling off eight saves.

WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.

His efforts earned him just a third clean sheet of the season and his improved form has been key to the Gers’ strong defensive record since Gio van Bronckhorst’s appointment as manager.

The 39-year-old wasn’t the only player with an Ibrox connection to make the select XI, though.

There was also a place for former Rangers defender David Bates.

Ex-Rangers centre-back Bates joins McGregor

After a tough few seasons out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Cercle Brugge from Hamburger SV, Bates joined Aberdeen on a three-year deal in August.

It took him a while to get up to speed, with Stephen Glass’s side struggling defensively.

However, he’s now thriving at Pittodrie.

The 25-year-old scored his first Dons goal and contributed to a first clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Livingston earlier this month and he was a standout performer again at the back in a 1-0 win at St Johnstone on Saturday.

Bates appears to have benefitted from an extended run of games and looks confident in his ability once again.

The only other Premiership players to make the XI were Ross County’s Regan Charles-Cook and Celtic’s Tom Rogic.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, a former Rangers player bagged a hat-trick with a ‘jaw-dropping’ display in an overseas league.
