Rangers star Jermain Defoe was a special guest for Tottenham Hotspur last night as the legendary striker visited the club’s new $1bn (£709m) stadium.
The potent former Spurs striker made his way back to North London as spectators were welcomed back to the stadium this season for a Premier League match with Aston Villa.
Looking dapper as ever, the 38-year-old veteran striker was delighted to get a look around the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, built on the same ground as the old White Hart Lane that the now-Rangers player and special guest lit up earlier in his career.
The striker spent two spells at Tottenham and scored 143 goals for the club over a total of eleven seasons and remains a highly thought of figure in North London.
Disappointingly his old side couldn’t grind out a result for his return with a Ryan Mason-led Spurs side falling to a 2-1 defeat to the Villa in their last home game of the season.
Defoe’s influence remains at almost every club he’s played at and with the England national team, for whom he scored 20 goals in 57 games.
But for now, there is only one place Defoe wants to be as he opens up on what Rangers means to him and how much he loves it in Glasgow.
“When I spoke to the manager when I was coming here, the first thing he said is ‘you will love it here.’” Defoe told Sky Sports.
“I’ve loved every minute, it’s been fantastic. I’m lost for words, it’s amazing.
“I want to stay here forever, I love it here, it is special.”
This is a view held by the Rangers support with many eager to give the striker one more year after he showed just how potent he can still be with goals against Celtic and Aberdeen in recent weeks.
