Rangers are still “considering” their next move after the SFA’s decision to ban five of their players for Covid-19 breaches earlier in the year, according to a club source.

The SFA have handed four-match bans to Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear with another two suspended unless they are involved in another breach.

This comes after all five players were caught attending a house party in Glasgow’s west end earlier in the year with the club coming down on the players internally.

However, a public apology was accepted by Rangers and since then both Nathan Patterson – in the absence of captain James Tavernier – and Bongani Zungu have come back into the side.

Dapo Mebude – currently on loan at Queen of the South – played as a sub in the club’s weekend win over Hearts.

The decision also comes after Jordan Jones and George Edmundson were given seven-match bans earlier in the season in the strictest personal punishment doled out for Covid breaches to date.

As it stands there has been no official comment from Rangers but a club source did speak to the Glasgow Times regarding the club’s take on the situation.

“We are considering all our options and will make further comment if required,” claims the source.

The suspensions will begin this weekend as Rangers host Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox and with a Cup run to come and fixtures in the Scottish Premiership, all three first-teamers in Patterson, Zungu, and Bassey will be available for the final few games of the season.

Here’s more on the punishment as Rangers prepare for life without the players in the short term.
