Rangers are reportedly “sniffing around” high-profile Celtic target and Charlton left-side star Alfie Doughty as he enters the final six months of his contract.
According to the Athletic, the Gers are interested in the situation regarding the 21-year-old pacey full-back who has been the subject of two rejected bids from our Parkhead rivals.
Doughty came through the youth ranks at the Valley and made his professional debut with the Addicks back in 2018.
Injuries have limited the player’s game time so far this season but Doughty started the season on blistering form, scoring on League One’s opening day against Crewe Alexandra.
The midfielder would also register two assists in seven league games before being injured against Northampton Town in October.
The winger-turned-wing-back hasn’t been seen since then with a hamstring knock but is considered amongst the English third tiers top talents.
Rangers have used Charlton for cross-border contract deals in the past, now-Nigerian international Joe Aribo proving Scotland can be a positive step for young English-based players.
Calvin Bassey – also a left-sided full-back if not a tad more defensive – is another name which has come from England and started life north of the border brightly.
Doughty isn’t the only young name being linked with a move to Ibrox either – a deal to bring a January signing to the club is said to be “90%” done.
