The Rangers SLO (Supporters Liaison Officer) has provided an update to supporters regarding the ongoing Europa League fixture debacle.
Eager Rangers fans are still waiting to find out when their side will be playing Gibraltar outfit St. Joseph’s with two local sides needing the use of the one stadium, on the same day.
And for anyone wanting to know if anything is official yet, they’re going to be sadly disappointed.
The Rangers SLO claims that:
“The club will have to wait until UEFA confirm our fixture before we announce it and unfortunately I do not expect the club to hear confirmation until tomorrow.”
That means Gers fans who’re eager to book some time off work or travel to the match won’t know until tomorrow if the club will be playing earlier than Thursday night.
Should Rangers play the game on Tuesday, they will be forced to play two matches in three days.
The reason why Rangers may be forced to play the match with St. Joseph’s earlier is because another Gibraltar outfit, Europa, are also in the Europa League.
If they manage to get past St. Julia tonight, then only the Victoria Stadium is suitable for European competition in Gibraltar.
Of course, two teams can’t play on the same day, so Rangers could be forced to play their tie earlier.
But if St. Julia manage to knock Europa out, then all of this will be much ado about nothing.
I guess we’ll find out either tonight or tomorrow.
