Rangers are set to miss out on the signature of Manchester United youth starlet Dion McGhee, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The newspaper is claiming that Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard was “keen to keep the midfielder in the UK” since his contract came to an end at Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Mail, McGhee is now set to join either Porto or Benfica with a host of clubs missing out on the 19-year-old’s signature.

West Ham and Derby are two British clubs mentioned, whilst the report also claims there has been interest from Italy, Spain and Holland.
The claims come after McGhee was linked to Rangers towards the end of June.
The Manchester Evening News claimed Rangers were one of three frontrunners for McGhee’s signature, competing with West Ham and Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
However, the Daily Mail report suggests McGhee is now set for a move to Portugal with both of the nation’s big hitters eager on a move.
Although McGhee never turned out for the Manchester United first-team he appeared nine times for the club’s U23 side this season despite being a teenager.

Rangers have been linked with a range of midfielders across the summer transfer window with a move for Bongani Zungu, 27, reportedly getting closer.
Any deal to bring the Amiens and South African midfielder to Ibrox is believed to worth £3.8m as Steven Gerrard adds international experience to his squad [Scotsman].
