The official Twitter account of Rangers have sent a congratulatory message to German giants Hamburg after they edged out a seven-goal thriller against Paderborn.

Hamburg had raced into a two-goal lead by 24 minutes in the Bundesliga 2 clash before Paderborn scored three goals in four first half minutes to go 3-2 up.

Thanks to an inspired showing by striker Simon Terrode Hamburg were hauled back into the match in the second half before Aaron Hunt scored a late penalty to settle the contest.

Rangers have held a close bond with their Hanseatic cousins ever since the 1970s and took to Twitter to congratulate them on edging a tight contest.

The Gers simply applauded the German club, joking “never in doubt”.

The result means Hamburg have started their Bundesliga 2 campaign with two wins from their opening two games and sit top of the German second tier at this early stage.

It’s not the first time the two clubs have shared an interaction on Twitter either.

The Ibrox club previously sent Hamburger SV a message on International Friendship Day as they celebrated the bond held by both supporters.

The historic connection between the two clubs is thought to have started in the 1970s when Scottish workers set up a Rangers Supporters Club in the legendary port-city of Hamburg.

Rangers signing German legend and former Hamburger SV star Jorg Albertz also helped to strengthen the bond between the two clubs, and he continues to act as a symbol of it.

This friendship has continued over the years at Rangers with both clubs now holding a unique fondness for each other.

It’s clearly a friendship that the German giants and Scotland’s Premier Club continue to value and it’s something which both sets of fans still enjoy to this day.
