Rangers’ season-opener against Aberdeen at Pittodrie has been brought forward to 12:30pm on Saturday the 1st of August at the request of broadcaster Sky Sports.
The match was originally supposed to kick off at 5:30pm on the same day in a blockbuster opening to the Scottish Premiership season.
But once again those in charge of the game in Scotland appeared to make a big blunder – by scheduling this high-profile match at the same time as the English FA Cup Final, this year between Chelsea and Arsenal.
This Rangers Aberdeen match was being heralded as the showpiece match of the day as the Scottish Premiership kicks off another campaign.
But SPFL bosses clearly didn’t take into consideration the scheduling of the showpiece English FA Cup Final, which is scheduled to take place at Wembley on August 1st.
According to this report on talkSPORT, despite no official time having been given at the time of writing, they claim the match “will likely get underway at 4:30pm”.
That is exactly an hour before Rangers’ visit to Aberdeen was originally scheduled and would obviously impact on viewing figures, particularly down south.

Its little wonder Sky Sports have opted to move the fixture but once again a lack of foresight has seen supporters draw the short straw.
Whilst the match still promises to be an intense affair, a little of the shine and intensity has been taken off it given it kicks off earlier than originally planned.
