Rangers have scored an early victory over Slavia Prague in an official UEFA Europa League Twitter poll ahead of their Last 16 tie.
The Gers have been superb in European competition so far this season, sailing through three rounds of qualifying before topping Group D and then trouncing Royal Antwerp in the Round of 32.
Eleven matches into their campaign, they remain unbeaten but now face what promises to be their toughest challenge yet.
Slavia are runaway leaders in the Czech First League and they knocked out Leicester City – who are currently third in the Premier League – in the last round.
Based on the results of a poll conducted by the UEFA Europa League Twitter account, though, the Gers are still heavy favourites to progress to the quarter-finals.
A tweet was sent out to the account’s 7.9 million followers on Wednesday morning, asking which of the two sides would triumph, and by the time of writing, Rangers had received a whopping 90.3% of 22,216 votes.
The poll will remain open until 4pm but it’s a clear early victory for the Gers off the pitch before the two sides do battle in the first leg at the Sinobo Stadium in the Czech capital.
It’s a first outing for Rangers since they were officially crowned champions of Scotland and the players will be keen to show that they are hungry for more success.
Gerrard’s side were dumped out by Bayer Leverkusen at this stage last season, so an aggregate win over Slavia would make this his best European campaign as a manager.
Progression to the quarter-finals would also trigger a substantial cash reward from UEFA.
