Rangers save £1m after resisting Joel Nouble recommendation

Rangers were touted as a destination for Joel Nouble – but the Livingston striker has really struggled this season.

It was pretty clear that Rangers needed to land new strikers over the summer.

Alfredo Morelos left Ibrox in the summer whilst Antonio Colak and Fashion Sakala were casualties of the Michael Beale revolution.

Beale brought in Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers for considerable money, but we are yet to see the best of them.

Others were linked over the summer and, in the case of Joel Nouble, his own managed backed him for Ibrox…

Joel Nouble struggling after Rangers suggestion

Back in April, Livingston boss David Martindale talked up the quality of his striker Nouble.

Martindale hailed Nouble as a ‘fantastic’ player and suggested that a move to Rangers would be great to see.

Martindale was coming from the angle of wanting the best for his striker, even if a manager touting his own players elsewhere is a little bizarre.

The Herald added that Livingston were looking for a fee of around £1million for Nouble.

Rangers didn’t bite and Nouble ended up staying with Livingston beyond the end of the transfer window.

We don’t blame Rangers for not being interested here.

Nouble is handful at 6ft 4in tall but he only scored seven times last season and is already 27.

A move just didn’t make sense and Rangers will probably feel vindicated with that stance right now.

Nouble has played nine times in the Scottish Premiership this season but is yet to score even once.

Nouble did miss one game but played at least 86 minutes in the others, so this is something of a goal drought.

The former Chelsea talent has scored in the cup but it’s league goals that matter the most – and he’s yet to find the net.

The London-born striker can cause mayhem at his best but just isn’t what Rangers need and it’s unlikely we see a move materialising any time soon.
