Rangers have received a late boost ahead of today’s EGM, with Stenhousemuir confirming they will vote in favour of the tabled resolution.
The Gers have called for an independent investigation into the SPFL’s April ballot to end the lower-league season and clubs are convening at 11am via videoconference to vote on the matter.
Stenhousemuir left it late, publicly announcing their intention just over two hours before the call by releasing a statement.
The League Two club are at pains to say they “are not picking sides” in the debate which is engulfing the Scottish game, but that they “intend to support the Resolution.”
“Our support for the Resolution is not about retribution and is not aimed at anyone individually or collectively,” reads a section of the statement penned by Stenhousemuir Chairman, Iain McMenemy [stenhousemuirfc.com].
“Instead we hope that it can lead to greater transparency and provide a foundation for ending the mistrust that has crept into our league organisation.”
The fourth-tier club go on to express their wish to end the in-fighting that “holds the game back”, calling for a governing body “that is focused on building a positive future for our game.”

Verdict
Stenhousemuir’s statement is a late boost for Rangers, who will be hoping many other clubs share the same desire to investigate and reform the SPFL.
Partick Thistle and Aberdeen both announced their intention to support the resolution on Monday and given that they helped to call the EGM in the first place, Hearts and Stranraer are both highly likely to support it.
Falkirk and Inverness Caledonian Thistle have also been vocal in their criticism of the league body but the likes of Dunfermline Athletic and Brechin City are set to vote no.
The Gers need 75% approval for their resolution to pass, including a specific number of votes from each of the four tiers of the league pyramid.
