Rangers have been ranked 44 places higher than rivals Celtic in Five Thirty Eight’s latest Global Club Soccer Rankings – poignantly in 55th place.
The Gers are hoping to secure a legendary 55th league title this season with all the omens good so far as Steven Gerrard’s side extend their unbeaten run to 23 games.

But whilst the little nod to Rangers’ ambitions this season is a coincidental one, the club’s high rankings on the index is indicative of the form they’re in this season.
Five Thirty Eight use a special Soccer Power Index to rank 637 club teams from across the planet with the ranking changing week by week.
The group uses a variety of factors to forecast the strength of club soccer teams from across the planet which is built on a foundation of expected goals scored and expected goals conceded against a neutral team.
The market value of squads are also considered to calculate the rating with the strongest teams in the club game unsurprisingly the most valuable clubs around.
These values are tweaked week-on-week based on form and with Rangers flying they’re higher up the rankings than their Old Firm rivals, who’re on a derisory run.

Manchester City top this week’s rankings, whilst Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid complete the top five.
Rangers’ ranking of 55th places them above Premier League sides such as Crystal Palace (66th), Burnley (67th) and Newcastle (70th), as well as teams from La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.
After drawing with Benfica in midweek, Rangers actually dropped down one place from the last set of rankings.
Contrast that with Old Firm rivals Celtic, whose awful run of recent form has them 89th, a fall of 11 places from last week after defeats to Sparta Prague and Ross County.

The Staggies are coincidentally the lowest ranked Scottish Premiership side, who come in at an extremely low 589th out of 637 clubs.
Oh, and the Five Thirty Eight Club Soccer Prediction for the Scottish Premiership has Rangers as 80% likely to lift the division’s crown come the end of the season.
