Rangers player Ianis Hagi’s already considerable profile has been raised yet further by an appearance in an advert alongside Barcelona and Man United stars Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba.
As the son of the great Gheorghe Hagi, Ianis has always had plenty of eyes on him.
Yet, after a few years of upheaval moving between Viitorul Constanta, Fiorentina and Genk, he’s settled in Glasgow and is starting to make waves of his own.
The 22-year-old played a big role in Rangers’ first top-flight league title triumph in a decade and recently scored his first senior international goal for Romania in a World Cup qualifying win over North Macedonia.
These major career breakthroughs have been accompanied by off-field opportunities.
Hagi recently starred in a Pepsi advert with Messi and now he’s featured for a second time alongside the all-time great, as well as World Cup winner Paul Pogba, in a Lay’s crisp commercial.
The Gers star is briefly seen enjoying a Lay’s product in the Romanian version of the advert, which is promoting the Champions League.
“It was a very interesting shooting given the fact that the coordinating team was in Romania and I was in Glasgow, at 3,000 km distance,” he said [Glasgow Times].
“But it was fun, and it is a pleasure to collaborate with Lay’s. I am happy to be part of this campaign and I hope the fans will appreciate the messages. I can just encourage you to stay close to my social media pages because, together with Lay’s, I have prepared a lot of surprises for you.”
After making two appearances for Romania during the recent international block, Hagi returned to Rangers action off the bench in a 4-0 Scottish Cup win over Cove Rangers on Sunday.
He has an impressive seven goals and 12 assists from 39 appearances in Light Blue so far this season.
Meanwhile, a proven goalscorer was left out of his current club’s matchday squad on Monday amid Rangers transfer links.
