Cyriel Dessers SHOULD have been awarded a penalty against St Johnstone last weekend.
That’s the view of the Scottish FA’s KMI panel who pored over decisions from referee David Dickinson during the 2-0 home victory at Ibrox on Sunday.
The whistler, at the time, refused to check the VAR monitor despite the defender having a clear hold of Dessers’ jersey as he attempted to win a header from a corner kick.

But now the panel has issued the dreaded ‘double red’ for Dickinson after he wasn’t asked to check the technology while also getting the on-field decision incorrect.
The panel of five people voted 4-1 in favour of the penalty should have been given and revealed their comments on the call.
The judgment read: “The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (4:1) deeming the onfield decision incorrect. The panel believed that the prolonged shirt pull from the defender impeded the attacking player’s movement towards the ball.

“One panelist believed that the referee was correct not to award a penalty kick. The majority (4:1) believed VAR was
incorrect not to intervene and a penalty kick should have been awarded after OFR.”
It comes amid three other decisions from the game which were deemed to be correct including the Ianis Hagi red card and the ref’s handling of the sending off. The comments on the red were: “The panel agreed that the correct decision was reached after a VAR intervention.
“The overall expectation was that this decision should have been identified by the on-field match officials.

The other decision involved an offside goal scored by Saints and that was judged to be spot on. Comments read: “The on-field offside decision was unanimously supported.
“The panel highlighted that the Assistant Referee was in a credible position to make the correct call in what was a very tight decision.”
