Rangers have paid an emotional tribute to club legend and unsung Ibrox hero Mary ‘Tiny’ Gallacher following her passing.

The former Ibrox staffer worked in a number of roles with Rangers and served the club for over 50 years with a legendary class and distinction.

A friend to so many of the club’s most famous footballers, Mary Gallacher starting working in the catering department of Rangers in 1967 and only retired from the club in 2019.

Given a Guard of Honour by the Rangers first team on the day she retired – a 3-0 win over Hearts at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard – the club have paid tribute to a legend whose impact in the background of Rangers over the ups and downs of her five decades cannot be understated.

“On behalf of everyone at Rangers football club we are deeply saddened to hear of Tiny’s passing,” said Rangers CEO James Bisgrove.

“She dedicated her life to Rangers and worked at the club for more than five decades in a variety of roles.

“Tiny was a trusted friend and colleague to a host of Rangers legends and a much-cherished member of the Rangers family.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this sad and difficult time.”

Rangers have detailed in an emotional tribute the many successes that Mary Gallacher enjoyed during her time in the background of Ibrox.

The people and the stories in the background of the Ibrox club are part of what makes the Gers so unique and Tiny’s is one which the club will always remember.

Remarkably, Mary Gallacher followed in the footsteps of her mother Lizzie Love and her grandmother Maggie Lindsay when she began working for the club in the 60s.

The family ties run right through Rangers to this day too, with “sister Irene working alongside her in the catering department, her husband John worked in hospitality at the stadium, with her dad Willie and Uncle Davy also being part of the Rangers family”.

Several members of her family remain in employment by Rangers.

Such was her commitment to Rangers, Mary Gallacher was invited to Monte Carlo to receive a special UEFA award recognising her service in 2001.

Presented with the John Greig Achievement Award by Rangers in 2014, her stories of some of the club’s greatest players are legendary and accompanied her tours at Ibrox Stadium over the years.

Everyone at Rangers News offers our deepest condolences to the family of Mary Gallacher in this difficult moment.
