Rangers pair John Souttar and Ryan Jack have been called up to the Scotland squad with the nation’s attentions firmly focused on Euro 2024.

The Tartan Army are in line to qualify for back-to-back European Championships after an explosive start to the qualification campaign for the tournament in Germany.

Scotland have raced to the top of Group A in the qualification stakes by winning their opening four matches, boasting an eight point lead over second placed Georgia.

With the nation set to travel to Cyprus on the 8th of September in a Euro qualifier, Scotland will then host England in a commemorative friendly four days later.

Rangers duo John Souttar and Ryan Jack have been important members of Steve Clarke’s squad when fit and both can be key figures in the nation’s Euro 2024 run.

But with the Ibrox fan sentiment towards Steve Clarke and Scotland rather frosty at times, attentions will be more focused on the injury history of both players.

Rangers are only just getting John Souttar and Ryan Jack back into the squad and if Steve Clarke and Scotland derail their progress there will be much frustration.

Despite this, John Souttar has been speaking to Sky Sports following his call-up to the Scotland squad and claims that Euro 2024 qualification is in the nation’s sights.

The Rangers defender is also very much looking forward to the clash with England, which celebrates the first ever international match in Glasgow back in 1872.

“I think qualification does feel close, there’s no denying that,” said Souttar. “Everyone in the country knows it’s close but also knows how much we still have left to do to qualify.

“We’ve done unbelievably to put ourselves in the situation we are in now, but there’s a long way to go, we need to get the points that will guarantee us qualification.

“It’s an exciting time for everybody involved, especially that result in Norway. The character the boy shows to come back from 1-0 down with those two goals was huge.

“It shows the turnaround we’ve had as a country because I know from growing up and watching Scotland you fear the worst going a goal down. I’m sure everyone’s been through it.

“Everyone knows how big the Cyprus game is first and foremost, it’s huge, so all focus will be on that. Then to play England, you want to grow up and play against them, so being involved in that fixture would be something to really look forward to.”

As both Rangers stars prepare to join up with the Scotland squad, John Souttar will be looking to add to his seven caps whilst Ryan Jack has made 16 appearances for the country.
