Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty has announced his departure from Birmingham City as Rangers look to lure the USA international to Ibrox during the summer transfer window.
They say you should never fall in love with a loan player.
And Trusty shattered many a heart on Tuesday night, taking to Twitter to confirm that his time at St Andrews was coming to an end. The Arsenal-owned Pennsylvania-born centre-half has been a big hit during his time at the Championship outfit; a tally of four goals and two assists in 44 league games highlighting his ability in both boxes.
And, with Rangers targeting a left-sided centre-half to replace out-of-contract Filip Helander, the Scottish Sun reports that the £2 million-rated former Colorado Rapids man is ‘high’ on Mick Beale’s summer wishlist.

What the future holds for Trusty, only time will tell. But, after confirming his departure from Birmingham City – and with Jakub Kiwior and Gabriel Magalhaes both ahead of him in the Arsenal pecking order – the Gunners are unlikely to stand in his way if Rangers step up their interest.
Will Rangers sign Arsenal’s Auston Trusty?
“What a year,” Trusty says. “I can’t thank Birmingham City enough for giving me the opportunity to represent such an amazing club.
“I’m eternally grateful everyone in the Blues organisation and to the fans. You helped me to grow as a person on and off the pitch. You made Birmingham feel like home.”
Trusty, who averages the most successful tackles per game of any Championship in England’s second tier, made himself indispensable to Birmingham boss John Eustace over the last 10 months or so (WhoScored).
And Eustace will be disappointed to see Trusty depart. He had, after all, expressed his desire to retain a player who sealed a shock move to Arsenal in January 2022.
“What a fantastic pro, a fantastic player,” the former QPR coach said recently (Birmingham Mail). “He has been a great servant for us this season.
“We are very fortunate to have good professionals here at the football club and Auston is certainly one of the them.
“He is very robust, he is an athlete, very fit, a top professional. I would love to keep him. I am sure there is a chance, definitely – but it’s out of my control. All I can say is I would love to keep him at the football club.”
