Rangers Old Firm record sees unlucky seven since Parkhead walkover

Rangers travel to Parkhead on Saturday knowing that a win over Celtic might not be enough to win the title but that a defeat ends all hope.

With a three-point gap and a goal difference deficit of minus three, Philippe Clement really is looking for something special from his squad in the remaining fixtures.

However, in recent seasons, trips to Parkhead have not always been ones for Rangers to enjoy as we look at the recent encounters with Celtic away from Ibrox.

Rangers results since last win over Celtic don’t look good

30/12/2023 Celtic 2 – 1 Rangers

The last meeting between the two sides at Parkhead almost sums up recent derbies.

Defensive mistakes gifted a two-goal lead before a late, spirited fightback that just wasn’t enough.

That it took for Leon Balogun to get sent off for Rangers to have a go wasn’t acceptable.

The Ben Davies and John Souttar disaster class.

All three goals were mistakes in a game where Rangers caused Celtic more than enough problems to win, they just couldn’t help but gift goals at the other end of the park.

3/09/2022 Celtic 4 – 0 Rangers

Not many Rangers managers can survive two 4-0 defeats in one week, and it was only a matter of time before Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s reign in charge ended.

Three visits to Parkhead saw eight goals conceded and only one scored with a 1-1 draw the best result he could manage.

It was a small consolation prize to stop Celtic winning the title on their own patch, but even a win wouldn’t have been enough for the destination of the Scottish Premiership trophy to change direction.

The damage was already done, and a four-point gap was the result.

2/2/2022 Celtic 3 – 0 Rangers

The beginning of the end, and arguably the fixture that changed the futures of so many at Rangers.

Controversially rearranged under lobbying from Celtic due to an extensive injury list, the game took place with new signings for the home team with Rangers having to contend with having players missing.

Had the game been played before the winter break when Rangers were flying and Celtic struggling, things might have been different.

21/03/2021 Celtic 1 – 1 Rangers

As low tempo an Old Firm derby as there will ever be.

Rangers had already been confirmed as champions which led to an occasion where neither team really knew how to approach the fixture.

17/10/20 Celtic 0 – 2 Rangers

The first Old Firm derby of 2020/21 was mysteriously delayed by the fixture computer.

Almost as if there was a delay to see if fans could be allowed back into the grounds.

There wasn’t and Rangers enjoyed a stroll in the autumnal sun in as easy a game that fans will witness at Parkhead.

Rangers need to end Parkhead hoodoo

Three and a half years later and Connor Goldson’s double was the last time that Rangers tasted success at the home of their bitter rivals.

It is a record that has to change.

Philippe Clement has enjoyed a better record that Brendan Rodgers against the rest of the teams in the Premiership, however, with one draw and one loss, he is yet to taste Old Firm success.

Should he do it this weekend, the chance to upstage Helicopter Sunday could well be on the cards.
