Rangers now want to land Premier League transfer guru

Rangers are keen on landing Brighton and Hove Albion head of recruitment Sam Jewell as director of football.

Much of the focus right now is on who Rangers will appoint as a replacement for Michael Beale.

Yet whilst the managerial hunt continues, Rangers could also move to bring in a director of football.

Ross Wilson left the club for Nottingham Forest back in April but still hasn’t been replaced.

Beale took the lead on Rangers’ transfer business over the summer but the lack of success from his signings means the Gers could now go in an entirely different direction.

Rangers want Brighton and Hove Albion’s Sam Jewell

The Sun now report that Rangers have targeted a move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s head of recruitment Sam Jewell.

It’s stated that Jewell has played a key role in identifying signings such as Moises Caicedo and Carlos Baleba during his time at Brighton.

That talent-spotting ability has now put Jewell on the Rangers radar, with the idea of him replacing Wilson becoming increasingly appealing.

Convincing Jewell to abandon his role with Brighton for a move to Ibrox won’t be easy, especially after he allegedly rejected Premier League approaches in the past.

Rangers could still make a move though, believing that Jewell can bring some serious talent to Ibrox down the line.

Who is Rangers target Jewell?

Jewell is the son of former Premier League manager Paul Jewell, who coached the likes of Bradford City, Wigan Athletic and Derby County.

The 34-year-old previously held positions with the likes of Newport County and Swindon Town during his journey to the Premier League.

Jewell moved onto Brighton in 2016 and has been a key part of their operation ever since, helping bring some quality players to the South Coast.

Jewell works closely with Brighton’s technical director and former Ibrox hero David Weir, who may well be torn on whether or not he wants to see Jewell join Rangers.

Liverpudlian Jewell has previously noted that he has a good relationship with Weir – and he could yet follow in his footsteps with a move to Rangers.
