Rangers’ recent good form is made abundantly clear by the standard of the club’s November Goal of the Month competition.
As usual, fans have the opportunity to chose one of four efforts to win the award. This time round, each one is a cracker.
First up is Daniel Candeias’ effort against St Mirren. This had been a stuttering performance from the Gers, before the Portuguese was introduced from the bench. With the scores locked at 0-0, this effort from the edge of the box ultimately secured the three points. Receiving the ball on the right side, he whips it beyond the full-length dive of Saints keeper Samson, sending the away support into wild celebrations.
The second option is also a Candeias special. This time, it’s on the road at Spartak Moscow. This goal looked as though it may have been crucial, as it gave the Gers a 2-1 lead with less than half an hour played. The 30-year-old turned expertly after receiving a long ball from Jon Flanagan, before he clinically tucked away a right-footed finish into the bottom left corner. Ultimately, the result was disappointing.
Glenn Middleton’s goal against Motherwell is the third option. November was something of a break out month for the teenager and this is the pick of his efforts. Rushing onto a square ball on the left corner of the penalty area, Middleton despatched a first time finish as if he’d been doing it all his life. An accomplished effort.
The final option comes courtesy of Scott Arfield. The Canadian international notched a brace against Motherwell and his second effort has been singled out for praise. Receiving the ball on the move, he managed to sort out his feet quickly, to fire a left-footed effort into the far corner. He opened his body nicely on this one, steering the shot beyond the ‘keeper’s reach.
Which one deserves the crown?
For me, it has to be Candeias’ against St Mirren. Did he mean it? I’m not so sure it matters. This was a potentially season defining moment for the Gers, and it looked spectacular. A dipping effort from the edge of the area fit to win any game, this exorcised away day demons and put the Gers back on track.
