George Edmundson has praised fellow defender Connor Goldson in an interview with RangersTV.

The two centre-backs lined up alongside each other on Sunday afternoon and successfully nullified the opposition’s attackers, as the Gers thumped Hamilton 5-0.

Edmundson is Goldson’s third different partner already this season, but it seems they have a strong relationship.

“Connor’s massive for me,” the 22-year-old told RangersTV. “In training and when I first signed he has really helped me come on.”

“I feel I’m learning off him every day and he just makes me a better person and a better player.”

Verdict

Both Goldson and James Tavernier have come under pressure from a section of the Rangers support in recent times.

However, before Sunday’s game, Steven Gerrard came out in defence of both players [Scottish Sun].

Goldson is clearly the manager’s no.1 choice at centre-back and he helped secure yet another clean sheet against Accies. That’s 12 in his 19 appearances so far this season [Soccerbase].

He also managed to get himself on the scoresheet, netting his fourth of the season after half an hour.

The ex-Brighton man hasn’t been faultless this season, but there’s no doubt he’s made some big contributions.

It’s great to hear that both on and off the field, he’s also prepared to fulfil a mentor-type role for his more junior teammate. Edmundson has big potential, and in a year or two, he could be a central part of this team.
